Актуальні проблеми функціонування мови і літератури в сучасному полікультурному суспільстві. The concept of intercultural competence in modern science

The article considers different approaches to the definition of "intercultural communication" and "intercultural competence", as well as their role in preparing individuals for the implementation of foreign language interpersonal and intercultural communication with native speakers. The connection of these concepts with foreign language communicative competence is revealed. The analysis of researches of the competence approach in teaching foreign languages is carried out. It is proved that in the socio-psychological sense, the preparation of the individual for intercultural communication on the basis of a competency approach is presented as a process of learning how to establish value contact and achieve mutual understanding. It is concluded that language education should include not only the formation of students' ability to practically use a foreign language, but also the mastery of the ability to understand the worldview of a native speaker and successfully communicate with him.
