Abstract
The system of geographical concepts forms the foundation of geographical education in the school. The concept, as a logical category, is characterized by two interrelated and mutually contradictory parties, content and scope. Geographical concepts of content are divided into physical - geographical; economic- geographical; in volume ‒ on single and general. The process of learning the concepts has a number of features. One of the most important is that concepts cannot be learned only by learning definitions. The effectiveness of mastering the concepts is reflected in two forms: knowledge of the concepts and proper management of them. However, these forms of assimilation can be different in relation to each other. At the heart of any -what the thought process of operating the concepts is. Therefore, all of them should not be formally mastered, but understood in the process of active cognitive activity.
